What’s on at the Emperor (Arabian nights: Starting 1st July until 4th July) 01223 464633

Announcing a very special food event at The Emperor: Home cooked Arabic food on the weekend of Friday 1st to Monday 4th July. We are still celebrating the marriage of Landlord Dave to his beautiful Jordanian wife, Enas and have noticed how much his Arabic diet has improved him. So, if you want to share the love come down to The Emperor and get a taste of spicy heaven; Enas is taking over the kitchen for a long weekend, the chef is off to the beach (in the garden), and you can get a taste of authentic Arabic food in the heart of Cambridge. It’s fresh, it’s healthy, it’s tasty and it’s cheap. You can even eat your food on the beach in our garden

Starters all at £3.50

Mutable: Slowly baked aubergine, then mashed with a little bit of garlic and mixed with tahineh; served with fried pitta bread with olive oil.

Homemade Hummos: Mashed chickpeas with tahineh, garlic, lemon and cumin; served with fried pitta bread with olive oil.

Chicken Rolls: Tender chicken stripes along with finely chopped onions cooked in olive oil and Summak spice, wrapped in Arabic bread and baked in the oven.

Crazy Aubergine: Fried aubergine covered in garlic flavored tomato salad and side dressing.

Main Dishes all at £6.95

Magloubeh (Upside Down):A very traditional Jordanian meal; it contains carrots, potatoes, aubergines, cauliflowers, green peppers, onions, chicken and rice, all cooked in Jordanian spices in one big pot. Once it’s cooked, the pot is flipped upside down and the dish is suppose to look like a cake! Served with Arabic Salad or Yoghurt Salad.

Bokhari: Yet another traditional dish, it contains chickpeas, rice and pieces of meat cooked to perfection with aromatic spices that your mouth will not forget. Served with Arabic Salad or Yoghurt Salad.

Dessert all at £2.50 or all three courses for £10.00

Backlawa (Baklava): A very traditional dessert in the middle east and turkey; layers of puff pastry and pistachios drizzled in a sweet honey syrup.

Saturday 15th January - The Emperor

Happy New Year! The Christmas decorations have come down for another year, so it's time to make the pub look vaguely ridiculous some other way...and Dave thought that you lot singing would do the trick.

20:00 on Saturday 15th January will see karaoke set up in the pub, with a selection of classic tunes on offer for our loyal customers to murder. Go on...you love it...

The Second Emperor Pub Quiz!

E-mail Print PDF

The Second Emperor Pub Quiz will take place on the 21st February at 20:30 - and it's a Big Money Quiz! £250 first prize, £100 second prize and a round of drinks for the teams who are third and third-from-last.

Bingo at half time with a round of drinks to be won, as well as the (to-be classic) Emperor conundrum: Moet or Monster Munch? One lucky punter also gets to have a go at the £500 Play your Cards Right, and if they don't win it, up to nine more people will have a go for £100. Sandwiches will be provided as well; come on down early and get a seat.

The bar will close at midnight and entry for the Big Money Quiz is £3.00 a head. With so many chances to win it all back and a great evening to be had, why wouldn't you?

We've imported the Quizmasters from the Empress Pub Quiz for the night; many of you will know what to expect...it won't be easy, but you'll love it...

4-1 doesn't look quite so bad now...

It takes a lot of personality, integrity and honour to admit when you're beaten and to applaud the victor without rancour. We at the Empress were happy to do that.

It takes even more honour to share the grief of those who are subsequently given a worse beating by that same victor. More honour than we had, to be frank. Come on, Argentina...at least we scored a couple...

Here's looking forward to Uruguay - Holland and Germany - Spain!
