The second round has thrown up a few tasty fixtures, but none more so than England - Germany...there's a little bit of history there!
Tongue planted firmly in his cheek, Dave decided to celebrate the upcoming match by painting the outside of the pub with a few friendly reminders of why this match-up means so much to all of us...which the papers and the ITN News promptly picked up on! The Daily Mail's picture of Dave was a little unfortunate...it's all very well having Tom, Dick and Harry written under the windows as a tribute to the tunnel names in The Great Escape, but it doesn't help to have the Landlord's grinning mug captioned with just the middle one...
Along with local legends Josh Vermont, Joe Wild and Graham 'Starkey' Sharkey, Dave set out to create a humorous and striking send-up of the traditional response to an England-Germany game, with two rules: Nothing offensive, and as tacky as possible.
By popular consensus, it was pretty successful! Come on England! A free pint of Spitfire to our German visitors; forgive us if we hope you're not laughing into it come Sunday afternoon..!
